OS Scheduling

چکیده
In any system that multiplexes resources, the problem of scheduling what computations run where and when is perhaps most fundamental. Yet, like many other essential problems in computing (e.g., query optimization databases), academic research moves a pendulum, with periods intense activity followed by dormancy it considered "solved" problem. These three papers make significant contributions to an ongoing effort develop better policies for modern systems. The highlight need better, more efficient, flexible OS schedulers; open up new areas research; demonstrate importance continued development innovation policies.

POSIX-Compatible Application-Defined Scheduling in MaRTE OS
This paper presents an application program interface (API) that enables applications to use application-defined scheduling algorithms in a way compatible with the scheduling model defined in POSIX. Several application-defined schedulers, implemented as special user threads, can coexist in the system in a predictable way. This API is currently implemented on our operating system MaRTE OS. We pla...
متن کاملFIPA-OS Agents Applied to Process Scheduling in Realtime Monitoring
This work presents a mechanism for the management of network tasks, based on the technology of Intelligent Agents applied to a project of Telemedicine in Intensive Care Units (ICUs).The telemedicine system provides the real time acquisition and analysis of physiological data of patients, the graphical visualisation of these data and their transmission to a central system charged with the collec...
متن کاملEconomically Enhanced MOSIX for Market-based Scheduling in Grid OS∗
Applying economic principles to grids is deemed promising to improve the overall value provided by such systems. By introducing market mechanisms, end users can influence the allocation of resources by reporting valuations for these resources. Current market-based schedulers, however, are static, assume the availability of complete information about jobs (in particular with respect to processin...

متن کاملIntelligent OS Process Scheduling Using Fuzzy Inference with User Models
The process scheduling aims to arrange CPU time to multiple processes for providing users with more efficient throughput. Except the class of process set by user, conventional operating systems have applied the equivalent scheduling policy to every process. Moreover, if the scheduling policy is once determined, it is unable to change without resetting the operating system which takes much time....
